Introduce green space, color, activity and public art to Cincinnati Red’s Great American Ballpark.

While a senior urban designer/principal with HOK S+V+E, Dennis Reynolds provided urban design and landscape architecture services for the Cincinnati Red’s Great American Ballpark. Dennis facilitated multiple design workshops and worked with the County, City and its consulting team including Urban Design Associates to maximize the broader positive impact of the ballpark on the City’s “Banks” riverfront redevelopment initiative and the Fort Washington Way interstate highway reconfiguration.
Ballpark entries, streetscapes, public plazas and even the right field ballpark concourse along the river’s edge were designed to accommodate both game day crowds as well as providing a quality non-game day experience.
Constructed over structured parking, the ballpark’s streetscapes and public spaces utilized rooftop garden technologies and light weight design features to introduce green space, color, activity and public art. Structural soil was utilized in the expanded and linked planting areas increasing sustainability and reducing irrigation requirements.
Site design features included custom tree grates with iconic symbols reflecting adjacent land uses, pylons with interchangeable art panels, integrated lighting and seating, and a proposed pleached alley of hornbeams to create a dramatic gateway.
